Profile & Recognition

Italian trombonist Peter Steiner is internationally recognised for his expressive playing, described as “beautifully controlled with a vocal sound.” He is regarded as one of the leading trombonists of his generation, noted for his technical command and musical sensitivity. In 2019, he was named a Prize Winner at the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition in Russia.

Performances & Touring

During the 2024 to 2025 season, Peter’s engagements include performances with the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, as well as duo concerts with Constanze Hochwartner across Austria, Australia, China, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and the United States.

Solo Career & Premieres

Peter has appeared as a soloist with orchestras worldwide, including the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Mariinsky Orchestra, Philharmonisches Orchester Würzburg, Taipei Chinese Orchestra, Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira, Bartlesville Symphony, and Central Ohio Symphony. A strong advocate for new music, he has premiered numerous works, including the world premieres of UFO Concerto for Trombone by Johan de Meij, the Trombone Concerto by Dimitri Cervo, and Departures – Double Concerto No. 2 by Kevin Day.

Orchestral Career

At the age of 23, Peter was appointed Trombonist of the Vienna State Opera and Vienna Philharmonic for the 2016 to 2017 season. Prior to this, he served as Principal Trombonist with the Colorado Symphony for the 2014 to 2015 season. He has also performed as a guest trombonist with major orchestras including the Munich Philharmonic, Staatskapelle Dresden, New York Philharmonic, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony Orchestra, and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Education & Training

Peter began his studies at the Music Conservatory in his hometown of Bolzano, Italy, before continuing at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. In 2016, he graduated from The Juilliard School in New York with a Performance Diploma. His principal teachers include Joseph Alessi, Warren Deck, Nitzan Haroz, and Dany Bonvin.
