James Copus has recorded with many of the world’s most established jazz musicians, including Dave Holland, Joe Locke, Tim Garland, Stan Sulzmann, Gareth Lockrane, Laurence Cottle, Jim Hart, Clark Tracey, and Curtis Stigers, among others.

Session Work & Performances

As a highly in-demand session musician, James has performed and recorded with a wide range of artists including Olly Murs, Pixie Lott, Louisa Johnson, Gregory Porter, James Bay, and Basement Jaxx. His work also includes collaborations with major ensembles such as The Riverdance Company, the London Concert Orchestra, English Session Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, the BBC Big Band, the Guy Barker Big Band, and the John Wilson Orchestra.

Major Venues

Throughout his career, James has performed at some of the UK’s most iconic venues, including Wembley Stadium, the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican, and Abbey Road Studios.v

Education & Training

James studied with renowned trumpet players Till Brönner, Gerard Presencer, Alex Sipiagin, and Steve Fishwick. He began his formal training on the Junior Jazz course at the Royal Academy of Music before continuing there as a full-time student, graduating with first-class honours.

Awards & Honours

During his time at the Royal Academy of Music, he was awarded the prestigious Derek Watkins Award in recognition of his outstanding talent and achievement.
